It’s finals and your brain is shot. Relax and enjoy the free food as art historian and kinkster Suz presents the sexy, beautiful art of 18th century Japan.
Denied political power, the wealthy merchants of Japan fueled a hedonistic, aesthetic enclave of courtesans and artists called the Floating World. In a country of few sexual taboos, Floating World artists turned to capturing the fleeting pleasure of this world, making beautiful, sexually explicit images. New techniques in printing made these images available to almost everyone. This art is now called Shunga, and its kaleidoscope of human sexuality is shown in the huge number of prints produced.
This class is mostly an excuse to look at erotica, but the history is too fascinating to be left out. Expect lots of shiny images.
